DEHRADUN: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has asked the state government to improve its coverage of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, to transfer land title to forest dwellers and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities by May 2016.
The rules, notified on Friday, have specified the limit of land beyond which compensation would need to be paid to the affected persons.
A parliamentary panel has asked the environment ministry to “seriously consider” vesting Scheduled Tribes and other forest dwellers, who were forced to relocate due to development interventions, with tenurial and other incidental rights.
